Working at height training

When it comes to workplace safety, one of the activities that require particular attention is undoubtedly work at height. But what exactly is meant by work at height? According to Legislative Decree 81/2008, Article 107, work at height is any work activity carried out at a height of more than 2 metres above a stable surface. This is a very precise definition, which immediately makes clear how broad the scope of this type of training is.

Why is working at height training so important?

Every year, falls from height account for a high percentage of workplace accidents, often with very serious or even fatal consequences.

Thanks to suitable courses, workers can acquire all the skills needed to prevent these risks and confidently face the most complex situations. Knowing the safety rules in theory is not enough: it is essential to learn to use them correctly in daily practice.

What do the regulations provide for working at height training?

Italian legislation, specifically Articles 77 and 115 of Legislative Decree 81/08, imposes a very precise obligation: workers who carry out work at height must be adequately trained in the use of Category III PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), i.e. fall-arrest equipment.

These devices are designed to literally save workers’ lives in the event of a fall, but they must be used correctly to guarantee the maximum possible safety. Working at height training therefore cannot be limited to theory, but must necessarily include practical exercises.

What will you learn during the training?

By attending a specific working at height training course, workers will acquire complete skills, including both the regulatory part and the practical application of safety procedures. The main topics covered during the course include:

General and specific regulations on work at height.

Characteristics and use of fall-protection devices.

Operating procedures and techniques for working safely at height.

Identification and assessment of specific risks related to work at height.

Inspection and maintenance methods for fall-protection PPE.

Emergency procedures and rescue techniques in the event of an accident.

A worker who completes this training path is not only compliant with legal obligations, but above all has concrete tools to guarantee their own safety and that of their colleagues.

Who must attend working at height courses?

Working at height training is mandatory for anyone carrying out operations that expose them to the risk of falls from more than two metres. This applies to employees as well as craftsmen and self-employed operators, and regardless of the specific sector: construction, maintenance, telecommunications and many other fields require this training.

How long is working at height training valid?

Working at height training is valid for five years, after which refresher courses must be taken to keep up with the latest technologies and safety regulations. These periodic updates allow workers to keep their skills high and consistently maintain high levels of safety.

Concrete benefits of working at height training

Actively taking part in working at height training courses brings numerous benefits beyond simple compliance with legal obligations. First of all, there is a significant reduction in workplace accidents, since workers learn to recognise and prevent dangerous situations before they become critical. Secondly, a safer working environment also fosters greater productivity and operational peace of mind, bringing concrete benefits not only for the worker but for the whole company.
