First aid officer course
When it comes to workplace safety, many people immediately think of helmets, gloves and protective equipment. Yet one of the most important and often overlooked aspects is first aid. The regulations are clear: every company must make sure there are trained people able to intervene promptly. This obligation protects both the worker and the company, ensuring effective emergency management and reducing potential legal liability.
What training must the first aid officer complete?
The main regulatory reference is Ministerial Decree 388/03, which classifies companies into three groups: A, B and C. Depending on the company’s risk and the type of activity carried out, the duration and type of training required change.
Structure of the first aid officer course
The aim of the course is to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the duties of first aid officer, for the purpose of implementing internal first-response measures and activating first aid interventions in the workplace, as required by Legislative Decree 81/2008 and Ministerial Decree 388/2003.
How the course is divided:
Module A:
alerting the emergency system
This part of the course teaches how to communicate effectively with the emergency services, clearly stating where the emergency is and what condition the injured person is in. It is essential to stay calm and provide precise information in order to reduce response times.
Module B:
practical interventions and first aid techniques
In module B you learn how to handle common emergencies such as wounds, burns and trauma. You will learn simple but effective techniques that allow you to intervene quickly and safely until help arrives.
Module C:
resuscitation techniques and emergency response
This module is often the most engaging. You will learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, which are essential in critical situations. Knowing how to perform CPR correctly can literally save a life while waiting for the emergency services.
When and how to take the refresher for first aid officers?
Once you have completed the first aid officer course, you will receive a certification valid for three years. It is essential not to let it expire, otherwise the company could incur penalties. Besides the legal consequences, up-to-date training ensures better preparation when facing critical situations.
How do you find out which group your company belongs to?
The classification depends on the sector, the number of workers and the specific risk of the activity carried out. For example, a small administrative office generally falls into group C, while a medium-sized factory almost always belongs to group A or B. Knowing your group is the first step in choosing the most suitable course
Additional benefits of first-aid-trained staff
Investing in first aid training brings many benefits beyond simple regulatory compliance.
Concrete benefits include:
- Increased safety and fewer accidents.
- Improved workplace atmosphere and staff perception.
- Reduced legal and insurance risks.
